I have one special cat.
What are your future goals?
I hope to complete a dual masters in nursing and public health (epidemiology). I want to continue to provide quality patient care and help address barriers to access as well as quality improvements to the care we deliver!!
What is your favorite part of your job?
Supporting our parents!! My favorite part about being the overnight nurse is being able to be that safety net and support system for our parents. Being a parent is challenging, scary, and so rewarding. I LOVE caring for our sweet patients but being each parent's personal cheerleader, encouraging them, and guiding them through vulnerable moments is what I love the most.
Tell us a funny story about work.
I once cared for a little boy who was feeling a little crummy. His very pregnant mom brought him for a rash. All he wanted was to be held and comforted. He asked me to pick him up and with his mother's permission, I did. I held him for nearly 45 minutes while we waited for the provider and through the visit because he refused to be put down. He got upset and cried during the visit. My scrubs were already wet from his tears and drool, then he wiped his runny nose on my scrub top. It was such a tender moment, I didn't mind, I knew I had back up scrubs. Turns out he had scarlatina (strep rash). The doctor told him (and his mom) that he would need to take some medicine to help get rid of his bad germs. He looked up at me and said "Ms. Toria, I'm sorry I got my yucky germs on your shirt. Will you still hold me?" We all laughed and I scooped him back up to give him the biggest hug! I told him, "Yes little man, I will always hold you if you need me to." Definitely one of the funniest and sweetest moments I've had. ♥♥♥
